Today Pakistani nation is passing through one of its greatest ordeals. More than 20 million people, devastated by the violent waves of the flood are crying for help. Their relief and rehabilitation in the dire national, religious and human need of the day.

It is a much bigger calamity than the Tsunami. Tsunami affectees were about 2 million citizens only and they were supported by many countries and governments, whereas here 20 million people have been uprooted from their homes by torrential rains and violent upsurge of the rivers. There are almost 100 countries in the world whose population is less than 20 million. All this speaks for the magnitude of the calamity, and havoc befallen the Pakistan nation. We as a nation have to come upto this challenge and leave no stone unturned for the relief and rehabilitation of our dear country men.

All amounts to be spend on 14 August celebrations of independence, must go to the flood affected. We must daily save some money from Sehr and Iftar for these unfortunate Pakistanis. All amounts supposed to be spend on Eid festivities should be donated to flood affectees. These ideas were expressed by Prof Dr Nizamuddin Vice Chancellor University of Gujrat while addressing the orientation seminar of volunteers for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected with the synergic struggle of Pak Army and UOG. The damage caused to human life and property is unparalleled. This flood has completely shattered our economic base. Suffering and misery of our country men is immense large-scale and deep. All of us must join hands to bring back smiles to the tear laden and woebegone faces. UOG has collaborated with the Pakistan Army to make flood relief and rehabilitation process transparent and efficient. I hope in this operation UOG administration and staff will make its best possible contribution.

Lentenant Colonel Mujahid Ali from the Pakistan Army said that he was highly impressed by the concern, affection and humanitarian feelings of Dr Nizamuddin and his team. He appreciated the contribution of Dr Nizamuddin for managing a strategy for flood relief. He said that Pakistan Army is at the forefront in providing relief and help to the flood affected. He emphasized the need for self reliance and was critical of foreign aid which was much lesser even that supplied for Tsunami disaster. He reiterated his commitment to work dedicatedly with the UOG for flood victims. Students leader Zain Khalid Raja professed on behalf of students that they will work round the clock to make this humanitarian project a complete success.
