Faculty at Botany Awarded Phd Scholarship

The Govt of China under its “Government China Liaoning Scholarship” scheme has awarded scholarship for PhD study to a faculty member of at Botany department the University of Gujrat. Revealing the details of scholarship, Head of Botany Department Dr Abdul Majeed said that the scholarship has been awarded on “Genetic Analysis and Molecular Mapping of Race-Specific Resistance Genes of Rust Disease of Wheat”. He said that the study will be conducted both, in Shenyang Agricultural University, China under the supervision of Prof Dr Feng Lin and the University of Gujrat under the supervision of Dr Abdul Majeed. Study will help to identify the genes responsible for rust disease and to evolve healthy varieties of wheat against rust disease, he added.


Understanding Norwegian and Pakistani Societies

The Vice Chancellor University of Gujrat Prof Dr Nizamuddin while opening the third lecture of seminar series entitled “Understanding Norwegian and Pakistani Societies” said that forced marriages among Pakistani immigrant at Oslo are linked with their obsession with cousin marriages. Explaining the hazards of marriages among cousins, the Vice Chancellor stressed the need for scientifically analyzing this trend and adopting the remedial measures. He also emphasized for socio-psychological research of obsession aspects among the youth of Pakistani society. He said that cousin marriages have been the outcome of cultural background of the Muslim population of Indo-Pak sub continent. He told the audience that a Pakistan Studies Center would be opened soon in Oslo on the pattern of the Norwegian Center for Language and Social Sciences at the University of Gujrat. (more…)

UOG Staff Donates Money for Flood Affectees

Today Pakistani nation is passing through one of its greatest ordeals. More than 20 million people, devastated by the violent waves of the flood are crying for help. Their relief and rehabilitation in the dire national, religious and human need of the day.

It is a much bigger calamity than the Tsunami. Tsunami affectees were about 2 million citizens only and they were supported by many countries and governments, whereas here 20 million people have been uprooted from their homes by torrential rains and violent upsurge of the rivers. There are almost 100 countries in the world whose population is less than 20 million. All this speaks for the magnitude of the calamity, and havoc befallen the Pakistan nation. We as a nation have to come upto this challenge and leave no stone unturned for the relief and rehabilitation of our dear country men. (more…)
