OMAHA (USA): The son of a police detective opened fire at a high school in the state of Nebraska on Wednesday, fatally wounding the assistant principal and forcing panicked students to take cover in the kitchen of the building just as they returned from holiday break.
The gunman, who had attended the school for no more than two months, also wounded the principal before fleeing from the scene and fatally shooting himself in his car.
Authorities declined to speculate about why the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Robert Butler Jr., targeted the administrators.

An eight-year-old student of a private school was reportedly shot dead by security forces for allegedly violating the curfew on Sunday. The authorities had clamped a curfew on Bannu-Miramshah Road on Sunday due to movement of a Pakistan Army convoy from Bannu to Miramshah, the main town of North Waziristan Agency. The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has issued show-cause notices to 67 city-based colleges and higher secondary schools for their poor performance in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) humanities group annual examination-2010.
