School education to face Rs 5 billion budget cut

The Punjab Schools Education Department is expected to face an unprecedented cut of five billion rupees in its development budget for the year 2010-2011, it is learnt.

Similarly, the province’s Higher Education Department has suffered a cut of two billion rupees, exposing tall claims of the Punjab government for promotion of education and provision of quality education to the students.

The Punjab government had allocated Rs 14.05 billion for the Schools Department and Rs 6.3 billion for the Higher Education Department under the Annual Development Programme 2010-2011. Continue reading

Matric practicals from 7th April,2011

The practicals of Secondary School (Matriculation) Annual Examination 2011, being conducted by Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore, will commence from April 7. In a press statement issued on Monday, the BISE spokesman claimed that all the candidates had been provided roll number slips, however anyone failing to get the same should immediately contact the BISE office. SSC exams from April 5

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination under Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) will start on April 5.

School without books

Students of the government-run and -aided schools in the city will start their new academic year on April 1 without textbooks – all because of a tangle between the Ministry of Education and the National Book Foundation (NBF).

Legal minds start arguing in the Islamabad High Court on Friday how to clear the mess.

Informed sources said the NBF was supposed to have the books for Class 1 to 10 printed by March 15 but alleged that ill-advised orders from the ministry created a legal mess and stalled the printing process.

They said the NBF posted a tender for the purchase of paper for printing the books on its website, and that of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), on December 22 last year as the All Pakistan Newspapers Society had placed a ban on publishing the advertisements of the Education Ministry because the ministry owed its members over Rs190 million in back payments. Schools reopen in Darra with Taliban’s consent

The political administration has reopened 19 schools in Darra Adamkhel after a reported assurance by Taliban that they will not attack educational institutions of girls.

Sources said that during clandestine talks, Taliban assured tribal elders that they would not attack schools for girls in the region. However, Frontier Region of Koat Assistant Political Agent Syed Gul Jamal, when contacted neither confirmed nor denied the promise made by Taliban. Continue reading
