A seminar on ‘tropical and endemic diseases’ organised by the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) and the Pakistan Army discussed on Friday the outbreak of infectious diseases in the area, says a press release.
IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar underlined the need to establish a medical college for the treatment of infectious diseases gripping the region.
He said such a college was only possible with the financial support of federal and provincial governments. READ MORE »
About 4,200 candidates appeared in the entrance tests for admission to the Dow Medical College (DMC) and Sindh Medical College (SMC) for the MBBS and BDS courses. The tests were held smoothly at the Ojha campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Sunday.
According to the chairman of the DUHS admission committee, Dr Idrees, elaborate arrangements were made for the test conducted by the National Testing Service for the 2010-11 session at the Ojha campus, located in the vicinity of Dr A.Q. Khan Centre in KDA, Scheme-33.
Sources in the DUHS said that the results would be posted on the NTS website – www.nts.org.pk – on Monday.
The future of as many as 8,000 candidates hangs in balance owing to sudden change in merit criteria in admission of Punjab medical colleges by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Punjab, made after announcement of results of entry test.
A large number of affected candidates both male and female took to streets here on Saturday as they protested against the sudden change in merit policy by the PMDC and UHS and that too after announcement of results.
To register their protest, the angry and disturbed candidates held a demonstration outside the offices of ‘The News’ and appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the matter and provide justice to over eight thousand affected candidates. After demonstrating in Bannu, Peshawar, dozens of Bannu Medical College (BMC) students have been protesting in the capital seeking recognition of their medical college by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
The collage was established in 2006 by the former Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani. Strength wise it was the 3rd biggest college in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in public sector. The students enrolled were selected by a joint admission committee. READ MORE »
Expressing concern over delay in process of admissions to public sector medical colleges of Sindh, the office-bearers of Pakistan Medical and Dental College (PMDC) and Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) on Wednesday termed it a move to benefit private sector medical colleges.
Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, PMDC member from Sindh Dr Sher Shah Syed and PMA secretary-general Dr Habib-ur-Rehman Soomro said it was also against PMDC directives of preparing just one merit list for admission to both public and private sector medical colleges after simultaneously conducting entrance tests.
