Schools reopen in Darra with Taliban’s consent

The political administration has reopened 19 schools in Darra Adamkhel after a reported assurance by Taliban that they will not attack educational institutions of girls.

Sources said that during clandestine talks, Taliban assured tribal elders that they would not attack schools for girls in the region. However, Frontier Region of Koat Assistant Political Agent Syed Gul Jamal, when contacted neither confirmed nor denied the promise made by Taliban. (more…)

Student outfits pay tribute to marchers

Student organisations took out processions here on Friday to pay homage to students of Sindh University who were brutally attacked near Rajputana hospital when they staged a march against One Unit on March 4, 1967.

Activists of Sindhi Shagird Tehrik, a student wing of Awami Tehrik, brought out a procession from Hyder Chowk to the press club.

They were carrying placards and party flags and raising slogans against extortion and hooliganism in educational institutions of the province. (more…)

VU has introduced four new 4-year BS degree programs

Virtual University of Pakistan has introduced four new 4-year BS degree programs with effect from spring 2011 admissions that are BS in Management, BS in Marketing, BS in Banking & Finance and Bachelor of Business & Information Technology. Candidates having at least 45% marks in intermediate or equivalent qualification are eligible to apply. The University will commence spring 2011 session with effect from March 21, 2011. (more…)

Grading system for BS students at Karachi University

The Registrar, University of Karachi (KU), has announced that at a meeting of the Deans of the faculties, it has been decided that the B.S. students of Batch 2007, admitted in 2006, will be assessed according to examination and assessment rules, 2002, Booklet (Page 6-7).

The overall grading for declaration of final results of Division System for the students of 2006-7 batch would be according to the following criteria: first division, 60 percent and above; second division, 45 percent and less than 60 percent; less than 45 percent would lead to the failure in the aggregate.
