Large crowd at QAU Book Expo 2011

The Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Book Expo-2011 started here on Monday on the university campus.

QAU History Department in association with university’s DRSM central library and Higher Education Commission (HEC) has onranised this two-day event to cultivate the reading habit that is sharply on the verge of decline in this age of technology.

A large number of Quaidians and students from far-flung areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad thronged the Expo venue, QAU Social Sciences parking area. (more…)

Center of English Language (CEL) established at UMT

Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, has established the Center of English Language (CEL) with effect from July 01, 2010. Naveed Alam, Associate Professor, has been appointed as Director CEL for a period of 03 years with effect from July 01, 2010 subject to the approval of the Board of Governors. The Director CEL shall report directly to the Rector.

Softec will be held on 9th and 10th of April 2011

Admission of 42 medical students cancelled

The Punjab government has moved to cancel the admission of 42 of the 90 students admitted to the province’s public sector medical colleges on seats reserved for foreign pupils in violation of rules and regulations.

According to sources, the provincial government on March 4 issued a notification, cancelling the nominations on the basis of which the 42 students were granted admissions.

The sources said 118 pupils had been admitted to the medical colleges against 151 seats meant for foreign students on the basis of nominations made by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and Higher Education Commission (HEC). (more…)

Education key to counter terrorism

The education of the people is the only solution to fight extremism and terrorism in Pakistan.

The educational institutions are being targeted by the terrorists in the tribal areas because they know the fact that only educated people could frustrate their nefarious designs.

These views were expressed by the speakers at the round table on, ‘Literacy and Non-Formal Education in Pakistan’ organised by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and UNESCO involving international donor agencies, provincial education and literacy secretaries and Pakistan Human Development Fund (PHDF) here on Wednesday.

They stressed that a conducive and enabling environment was necessary to inspire people to get themselves educated. They also highlighted that motivation of all the sections of the society was necessary for the success of a social change. (more…)
