UHS displays merit lists
Nov 15: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has displayed the lists of candidates to be admitted to MBBS in 11 public-sector medical colleges in Punjab on open merit and against the seats reserved for the under-developed districts and the disabled students.
The lists which are available on the UJIS website (www.uhs.edu.pk) were displayed after a division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions filed by some candidates who challenged the entrance test weightage criteria of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for admission to medical/dental colleges in the country. Thousands of Pakistani students at risk in UK
London, Oct 01: Pakistani students in Britain are in the top league of those international students who are being reported to the immigration authorities by the education providers concerning their visa status in the UK.
A study showed yesterday that more than 1,500 foreign students are being pinpointed to immigration officials each month. The Manifesto Club campaign group, which obtained the figures under the Freedom of Information Act said that the UK Border Agency didn’t give them any specific figures on Pakistani students but confirmed that Pakistani students were amongst the “high risk” – indicating that they were amongst the top 4 reported groups. School on wheels
Twenty five students, dressed up in their best clothes, hunched with bags hung on their tiny shoulders, walked in a single file and seated themselves in a yellow bus, with ‘the Flying Classroom’ splashed over it. Excitedly, they chanted poems lauding Pakistan at the top of their lungs. ‘The Flying Classroom’ is a collaboration of the Thespianz Foundation and Goethe-Institut where by a bus has been purchased and converted into a mobile classroom. The idea is to provide education to students who do not have a school in their neighbourhood. Currently, only one bus was functioning in Akhtar Colony, but there were plans for expanding the project to two more locations, including Mehmoodabad, said Kashif Paracha, the programme manager at Goethe-Intitut, on Friday. University of Peshawar announced entry test results 2011-2012
The National Testing Service on Wednesday declared results of entry test for admission to the postgraduate programme of the University of Peshawar. Sikandar Ali topped the test with 89 marks out of 100. His admission test type was NAT-2M and he had applied for admission to the Management Sciences. Naeem Iqbal and Shahana shared the second position with 88 marks while Muhammad Javed Khan stood third with 87 marks. Out of the 7,000 candidates appearing for around 2,000 seats of the university, 4,200 took 50 per cent or above marks. Final merit list based on the aggregate percentage to be derived out of NTS test marks and BA/BSc marks would be displayed on November 20. 300 million dollar grant under World Bank Tertiary Education Support Project release grant to HEC
Islamabad 300 million dollar grant under World Bank Tertiary Education Support Project (TESP) is in jeopardy, if Finance Division fails to release the pledged supplementary grant to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in order to achieve the Disbursement-Linked Indicators (DLI).
According to a copy of letter available to this scribe, World Bank (WB) Country Director Rachid Benmessaoud expressed his concern that the project activities Linked to the March 2012 cycle DLIs may not be achieved. The same copy of the letter has been sent to HEC Chairperson Dr. Javaid Laghari, Ministry of Finance Secretary Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, Economic Affairs Division Secretary Abdul Wajid Rana, Economic Affairs Division, Additional Secretary, Himayatullah Khan, Planning Commission Member Dr. Samar Mubarakmand and Economic Affairs Division Joint Secretary Zafar Hassan Reza.
