Bahria University gets best library award

The Bahria University, Islamabad, has been honoured with the ‘Best Library Award’ by the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR), says a press release issued here on Friday.

The university library has been selected for the said award after having passed through a fiercely competitive peer-review process, based on present capacity, commitment to research, and study in science and religion. The BU Islamabad now stands amongst the top 150 institutions worldwide to have attained such an exalted position.

The university library is already considered one of the best fully automated libraries of the country, and the first in Pakistan to have developed Institutional repository online using DSpace software, while its librarian Hafiz Aamir Rasul is the only Ambassador for DSpace software nationwide. BISE Rawalpindi SSC result on August 2

The Education Department has formally sent the notification to all the boards including Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Rawalpindi (BISE) asking them to announce the Matric (SSC) result on August 2.

BISE Rawalpindi Spokesman Irslan Cheema said, “we have received a letter from the Education Department regarding announcement of Martic result on August 2. Previously there was no proper notification regard the deadline for announcing the result.

He said, “we are compiling the Matric result and will announce it on August 2 at 11 a.m. at Government Post Graduate College for Women, Rawalpindi. He said that the shopkeepers could buy the copy of gazette from any branch of Habib Bank for Rs1,200. “The result will also be available on the website of RBISE,” he said. (more…)

Another financial crisis brewing at HEC

Islamabad, July 26: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is likely to face the worst financial crisis ever as the Planning Commission has released only 7% of the total development budget during the first quarter of the fiscal year.

According to sources, the Planning Commission has agreed to release only 7% against the 35% development funds for July. The past practice was to issue 20% during the first two quarters and 30% during the last two quarters.

Sources said that an amount of Rs14 billion was allocated to the HEC for the fiscal year 2011-12, including Rs200 million for scholarships. Only six new projects have been included in the PSDP for the fiscal year 2011-12 with an allocation of Rs679.895 million. The allocation for the ongoing projects is Rs13.32 billion. (more…)

UET Lahore to re-take admission entrance test

Lahore, July 26: Over Rs 8.2 million went down the drain with the cancellation of University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore’s entrance test while the varsity is likely to face a loss of over Rs 2 million to reorganise the test in September.

The varsity had collected Rs 350 per candidate from around 41,000 candidates who appeared in the combined entrance test in different centres across the country for admission to engineering institutes of Punjab.

The test was conducted successfully on July 24; however, hours after it was cancelled by the university after it had received a tip-off that some part of the test was leaked. Since the test has been cancelled, the amount spent on its conduct has gone waste. Apart from this, the candidates, who bought the leaked paper, also lost huge money as reportedly the paper was sold at Rs 50,000 to Rs 100,000. Nonetheless, the mafia involved in leaking the paper made a quick buck and earned millions. (more…)
