The entrance test 2010-11 for admission to public and private medical and dental colleges in Punjab will be held on July 20, just two weeks or so after the conclusion of the FSc pre-medical examination. The minimum passing marks will be 60 per cent.
The University of Health Sciences will conduct the test simultaneously in 12 cities — Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Rawalpindi and Hasanabdaal – at 9am. The test will be free of cost as the chief minister has directed the admission board not to charge fee of Rs1,000.
Sources said the decision to conduct the test just two weeks after the FSc examination was meant to discourage the candidates to join academies for preparation. Earlier, there had been a gap of at least three months between the result of FSc examination and entrance test. It allowed the private academies to charge exorbitant fees from the candidates preparing themselves for the test.
UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Hussain Mubashar Malik said that the decision would provide a break to the successful candidates who would join after four months a very rigorous medical education.
