HEC ranked GCU best university 2010

The Government College University (GCU) had set new record by winning 115 oratory awards besides achieving numerous academic and extra-mural distinctions.

In 2010, the Higher Education Commission ranked GCU as the best university of Lahore and second best in Punjab for producing 282 research papers in top journals in a year.

In the eighth year of its inception as university, GCU outshined some of the finest and oldest universities of Lahore in research including as the University of Punjab which was placed one step beneath GCU with 269 publications, while the University of Veterinary and Health Sciences, Lahore (UVAS) was ranked 12th with 101 research publications. Seminar on child rights held

MULTAN: Media, NGOs and civil society must play their role to ensure protection to children as they are future of the nation.
The speakers said at a seminar on rights of children which held here on Wednesday. Unicef and Social Welfare Department jointly organized the seminar.
Mohammad Irtaza, a mediaperson, in his address said media highlights issues related to child rights and it is responsibility of NGOs and civil society to continuously chase and keep raising the issue in order to reach at logical end. He suggested there should be coordination among mediaperson, NGOs and civil society as it is vital to end harassment against kids. Continue reading

Education should be accorded priority: VC KU

Education should be accorded its due priority. This was stressed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui.

He was speaking as chief guest at the annual gathering of Unikarians- an organization of the old students of University of Karachi.

Prof. Siddiqui emphasized that the academic culture should be fostered in our society.

He was of the view that without excelling in the realms of education the country cannot make headway in the comity of nations.

Faculty at Botany Awarded Phd Scholarship

The Govt of China under its “Government China Liaoning Scholarship” scheme has awarded scholarship for PhD study to a faculty member of at Botany department the University of Gujrat. Revealing the details of scholarship, Head of Botany Department Dr Abdul Majeed said that the scholarship has been awarded on “Genetic Analysis and Molecular Mapping of Race-Specific Resistance Genes of Rust Disease of Wheat”. He said that the study will be conducted both, in Shenyang Agricultural University, China under the supervision of Prof Dr Feng Lin and the University of Gujrat under the supervision of Dr Abdul Majeed. Study will help to identify the genes responsible for rust disease and to evolve healthy varieties of wheat against rust disease, he added.


Education key to economic dominance

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said only those nations achieve socio-economic superiority and dominance over other nations that devote their time and energy for the creation and utilisation of knowledge through education and research.

He was speaking at the launch of a book “Atom Bomb – Tasawar say haqeeqat tak” authored by pro-vice-chancellor Prof Dr Jamil Anwar on the varsity campus here on Thursday.

Dr Kamran said the creation of an atomic bomb had given rise to the possibility of annihilation of mankind from the face of earth. Continue reading
