LCWU approves budget, college

LAHORE College for Women University (LCWU) syndicate on Friday approved the annual budget of the varsity, a separate university college for intermediate students and restructuring of the institution and faculties as well.

The 43rd meeting of the syndicate was chaired by varsity s Vice Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor. It was her first-ever meeting after taking over the charge as Vice Chancellor. According to details, LCWU approved Rs 38.533 million deficit budget. The varsity will spend Rs 830.631 million and receive Rs 792.098 million funds from all of its resources.   READ MORE »

Tension at MUET campus

Tension prevailed at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology campus in Jamshoro on Tuesday after activists belonging to student wings of some political parties resorted to aerial firing.

Reports said that the Sindh People’s Students Federation opened its office at the university, which was opposed by activists of some nationalist student organisations.

BISE Lahore Intermediate result fiasco

The Lahore board administration has failed to solve the Result Late (RL) issue that aroused due to the error-based Intermediate results, despite a passage of 18 days since result’s announcement.

The students, along with their parents and teachers were paying regular visits to the board’s office to get their result cards, however, the board officials were unable to issue them the results despite their several claims and promises.

The board officials had claimed to solve the issue within three to four days but remained unsuccessful in fulfilling these promises.

The negligence of the officials had put the students, parents as well as the teachers in turmoil since the new academic year had been delayed owing to disruption in the admission process at graduate level because of the result fiasco. READ MORE »

Realizing the fast-growing levels of knowledge in various fields of the engineering world, the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) has assigned top priority to research and published over 400 research papers produced by its faculty members up to June 2011.

This was stated in a presentation made to the visiting inspection team of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) on a two-day inspection of the Computer Engineering Department of the university.

The PEC team was informed that faculty members of the Electronic/Telecom Engineering Department produced 117 research papers while the Computer Engineering Department contributed 70, Bio-Medical Engineering Department 154 and Civil Engineering Department 68 research papers in renowned research journals. Technology may be one of the surest routes to advancement but embracing it without doing homework makes it a burden. It is such a scenario which has made computerisation of many a manual system in Pakistan a genie out of bottle, unlike other countries which have achieved through it a fair degree of efficiency, accuracy and transparency in results.

The Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education’s flirtation with the online examination system has proved one big failure. The computerisation of results in all eight education boards in Punjab, introduced by former Punjab higher education secretary Ahad Cheema and being spearheaded by consultant Dr Majid Naeem for well over a year, has become neither efficient nor accurate. The objective of transparency too remains to be seen. Every time the boards declare results they end up seeing on their campuses long queues of candidates anxious about their late results or those who want to get their result-sheets corrected.
