The National Testing Service on Wednesday declared results of entry test for admission to the postgraduate programme of the University of Peshawar. Sikandar Ali topped the test with 89 marks out of 100. His admission test type was NAT-2M and he had applied for admission to the Management Sciences. Naeem Iqbal and Shahana shared the second position with 88 marks while Muhammad Javed Khan stood third with 87 marks. Out of the 7,000 candidates appearing for around 2,000 seats of the university, 4,200 took 50 per cent or above marks. Final merit list based on the aggregate percentage to be derived out of NTS test marks and BA/BSc marks would be displayed on November 20. Islamabad 300 million dollar grant under World Bank Tertiary Education Support Project (TESP) is in jeopardy, if Finance Division fails to release the pledged supplementary grant to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in order to achieve the Disbursement-Linked Indicators (DLI).
According to a copy of letter available to this scribe, World Bank (WB) Country Director Rachid Benmessaoud expressed his concern that the project activities Linked to the March 2012 cycle DLIs may not be achieved. The Punjab government has appointed Dr Syed Aiqama as vice chancellor of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU). A notification in this regard was issued on Saturday by Higher Education Secretary Haseeb Athar. According to the notification, Dr Aiqama has been appoint ed vice chancellor for a term of four years.
The chief minister had sent the summary for appointment of Dr Aiqama as vice chancellor on June 25. Instead of acting on chief minister’s advice, the chancellor/governor purported to appoint Prof Dr Muhammad Zafarullah as vice chancellor and a row ensued.
Dr Aiqama, a professor of international relations at the Bahauddin Zakariya University, is currently serving as Pakistan’s ambassador to Yemen. Continue reading
FAISALABAD, Oct 8: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) will set up a research centre on dengue virus and a feasibility report will be finalized by a panel of scientists from various faculties of the university.This was decided in a meeting between Chief Minister’s
Dengue Research and Development (R&D) Programme head Dr Waseem Akram and university Vice-Chancellor Dr Iqrar
Ahmad here on Saturday.
The research centre will cover all aspects of dengue, including prevention, immunisation, vaccine, biodiversity, impact of climate changes, entomological practices, biological control and botanical and social factors.
The vice chancellor said the university would conduct a series of lectures on dengue on every Saturday from l0 am to 11am that would be open to all public and civil society. Continue reading
