Public, private campuses: House wants concerts banned

January 27, 2012 in (0 comments)

The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution seeking a ban on ‘objectionable’ concerts in all public and private educational institutions in the province.

The resolution was moved by PML-Q’s Seemal Kamran who wanted a ban on all concerts by the educational institutions, terming them unethical.

Rana Sanaullah Khan said the resolution had been moved in reaction to a recent concert by a private institution at the Alhamra Cultural Complex where three girl students died in a stampede. He said all concerts were not unethical and he had no objection to the resolution if it contained the word “unethical concerts.”

He said the news of the event was marginalized because the institution belonged to the owners of a media house. The media would have made it an issue had there been a government institution involved, he said. (more…)

Unveiled earlier this year, Samsung’s bada 2.0 operating system was initially slated for a Q4 2011 release. However, the Korean handset manufacturer delayed the launch of the mobile platform until next year.

In addition, Samsung removed two of its older Wave family smartphones, the Wave 525 and 533, from the upgrading list, but promised to compensate owners by offering them “Value Packs” that provide a glimpse of bada 2.0’s new features.

Although Samsung has yet to issue any official statements regarding the release schedule for the bada 2.0 upgrade, it looks like Samsung Turkey and Spain came forward and announced on their official Facebook pages that bada 2.0 would be released in 2012. (more…)

Facebook has to explain better to users what happens to their personal data and give them more control, the data commissioner in Ireland, home to the website’s international headquarters, said Wednesday.

Facebook must work towards “simpler explanations of its privacy policies (and) … easier accessibility and prominence of these policies,” the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) said after an “audit” lasting three months.

It called on the US firm behind the popular website, which helps its some 800 million users worldwide keep in touch with friends and exchange information, to provide “an enhanced ability for users to make their own informed choices.”

The DPC report, available at www.dataprotection.ie/docs/Home/4.htm, also called on Facebook to allow users to delete old messages, friend requests, pokes, tags and posts. (more…)

An initial ruling by International Trade Commission (ITC) administrative law judge Theodore Essex indicated he agreed that Motorola Mobility had tapped into Microsoft technology for scheduling meetings using a smartphone.

Motorola Mobility referred to the decision, which is to be reviewed by the entire commission, a victory since it did not endorse six other patent violation claims by the Redmond, Washington-based software colossus. (more…)
