My 100 series Toyota Landcruiser have been inspected twice by Government Inspection Pits and failed both times due to minor issues. I decided to have a mobile service done at my house to negate the need to pay for the Temporary Movement Permit. The service was done by the Toyota Mobile Service from City Toyota with the instructions to “fix the vehicle to pass the pit inspections”. Following the service, I decided to support my local area and found this company S&J Automotive Repairs to do pit inspections. After paying $88 they came up with a completely new list of issues. All of the previous issues were fixed so I can commend City Toyota for doing a sterling job. The issue S&J raised were: LPG Tags: Gas Tags to be fitted to body under bonnett not bonnett (note spelling of bonnett) The Gas System was installed by Gas Power and has not been altered in any way. The vehicle has passed pit inspections for be to claim Government Rebate on the installation. Gas Power install many systems daily and yet S&J is superior enough to claim this is done incorrectly. Go figure. Seats: Rears to be down and locked in, belts to be in good working order upon re inspection The 3rd row seats were in the folded up position. As they have passed 2 previous inspections I did not think to put them down again. In any case, S&J claims they are not allowed to fold the seats down. They probably also could not call me (who live 5 min down the road) to come and do this simple task for them to inspect the seats. Dangerous Items: Rectify cracked drive belts All the drive v-belts were replaced by the Toyota Service Mechanic. I have installed my own on-board compressor to pump tyres when we go 4x4. This separate compressor runs off a separate v-belt drive off a separate pulley. This v-belt is slightly cracked due to the acute angles it runs around the belt-tensioner. I have to admit, this is the first time any has described an aftermarket compressor v-belt as dangerous items. Foot Brake Pads (worn beyond minimum required thickness) to be replaced: Including both Front Again, they vehicle was serviced by Toyota and the service report stated Front Brake Pads to be inspected and replaced at next service if required. The vehicle had only done 25km since the service was carried out yet S&J claims according to them the pads are too worn to pass inspection. I called S&J to question these but suffice to say, no reasonable explanations could be given for these items. My warning to all: Do not take you vehicle to S&J Automotive Repairs as it’s obvious the $88 pit inspections are not enough to make an honourable living. They are a REPAIR company after all. They probably expect you to get them to fix the “DEFECTS” and thus generate additional income. I have the reports from the previous 2 inspections if anyone is interested. I’m happy to post these.
such poor service!! I dont recommend this place to anyone. got our car inspected there and they failed the inspection for such small reasons (the windscreen wiper and insurance sticker was not taken off the windscreen). so we took the sticker off immediately and went off to buy a new windscreen wiper because they were gonna charge us $40 for the single windscreen wiper, which we didnt accept because auto shops sell these for $10. even the auto shops said they jipped us because after looking at the wiper themselves they said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the windscreen wiper. we then went for second opinions at other automotive repair shops and they both said this placed jipped us! they just wanted us to come back for the second inspection, which we didnt!! we went to another place and our second inspection went smoothly even without changing the wipers. we just wasted money on a second inspection that wasnt needed because of this place quite frankly defrauded us.
Looking for a great smaller garage to service your car in Perth north of the river? S&J might be who you are looking for. I have been searching for a good mechanic in Perth that is not a dealer or a large shop. I stumbled on these guys after someone recommended them on the pradopoint forums. I recently took my Toyota Prado over to S & J after a larger shop (that shall remain nameless) did a shoddy job. Steve, John and Sandra sorted my car issues out. I will definitely bringing my Prado back for servicing here.
Went in today 11/04/2017 for a vehicle inspection to move our Qld registered car to Wa. Everything went very smoothly from S&J Automotive having the first available appointment well over a week ahead of any other places, to being friendly when we went in to completing the inspection bang on time.... Highly recommended work shop, got the job done with no fuss... Thanks team..I would recommend you guys to friends and family.....
Would never ever go to these people again for (Inspection). They tried to fix a fault which was non-existent and after charging nearly $ 450.0, my car is having another problem which was never there before. Can never believe, people can be so unprofessional. I waited this long to make sure that the current fault was introduced during that repair which cost me more than $500.
Such a great workshop. Went out of there way to help me with a loan car so I could still get to work. The prices were great and the staff are lovely. I would highly recommend if you need any servicing or faults fixed. They helped explain to me what was wrong in a way a chick could understand!
Steven, James, Sandra and the rest of the crew are great. They check your vehicle, do a quote and fix it. Wonderful service and will listen to what you say. As a visitor from Queensland they are a wonderful ad for the working people of Perth. Great small business.
Charged $100 for a simple trailer inspection. Then was given a made up list of issues with our trailer so we would have to come back for a service which would cost $250. Staff were also unfriendly, total rip off.
