I have serviced my car here three times and each time I have been disappointed. The first time was just in general very expensive and I was left with the feeling that they had ripped me off. I had just bought the car and its last service had been only a couple of months ago. I was only taking it in early to be conscientious. It shouldnt have needed any work. The second time I drove away with my front brakes screeching and within a few minutes drove back to them so they could bend the now damaged parts of my brakes back into shape. In particular though its the woman who works at the reception. She has no mechanical knowledge whatsoever and surprises me every time at the effort she puts into trying to rip people off. She tried to convince me that my wheels would fall off if I didnt pay $800 for the control arm bushes to be fixed. The bushes are just cheap silicone and shouldnt cost anywheres near $800 to fix. She said I needed to replace the control arms (which would come with new silicone). I demanded to talk to the mechanic who confirmed that the worst that could happen is my wheels would go out of alignment and that my control arms were perfectly fine and didnt need replacing only the silicone. I asked them to replace the silicone instead of the entire control arms. They charged me $550 for this because "apparently" it was 4 hours worth of labor. I got off the phone with them around 1pm telling them to go ahead with this (as well as to go ahead with the rear brake pads that needed doing) and was called at 3 because my car was ready. Thats 2 hours not 4 hours! They did the 4 hours worth of labour for the bushes and additionally replaced the brake pads all in 2 hours. Then they charged me for four hours worth of labour on the bushes as well as labour on the breaks. I asked how many mechanics were working on the car. Only one. In the same service they said that I should get my cv boot clamped and that they would do so free of charge while they looked at the control arms because it was in the same area of the car. When I arrived to pay they told me it was outstanding work that would need to be done in the next few weeks and it was going to cost me a further $120. I asked why they didnt replace it and it was apparently because I asked them not to. Who says dont do something for free? I dont think so. I told them not to do the control arms yes, but in order to do the bushes they had to take the control arms off anyways. This is the same area of the car. There was no reason for them to think I shouldnt want this done. The receptionist also said, as I was arguing with her about why it hadnt been done, that clamping the cv boot was very urgent and I would need to have my car booked in again as soon as possible. Again I demanded to talk to the mechanic who said that it wasnt a serious issue and could wait until the next service. Dont buy into their blue or gold service stuff. Basically they charge you an extra few hundred dollars for changing the windscreen wipers and doing a safety inspection (which they should be doing anyways regardless of the type of service). Im not coming back here, Ive had enough and I recommend that you dont come here either.
Had a log book service and hand brake adjustment carried out on my wifes car. To my surprise they didnt replace parts that didnt need replacing which made the service cheaper (in my case this was a drive belt). They identified that the tyres (which I knew about) and battery are going to need attention which I will deal with. I was able to get a cheaper service elsewhere however decided to go with RAC which ended up being 30% cheaper than the dealership. RAC is meant to be a name I can trust so if the workmanship was poor I would be cancelling my roadside assistance and insurance policies with them. They seem to have a big operation that has many staff from what I could see and can understand that they arent going to be able to make everyone happy (like any dealership that employs and trains many staff). Also if you are thinking of choosing RAC for the wash and vacuum then I suggest dont as they are primarily a service centre and not a car wash.
Will not be going back. I specifically asked for my headlights to be checked, as my car was going to be inspected by the DVS and I knew that one of the headlights was dull. Ended up paying over $1000 for the service and all the extra things that they found wrong with it, only to have my vehicle NOT pass the inspection the next day, because the right headlight needed a bulb replacing. I rang up to complain and was told that there was nothing they could do - as far as they were concerned they had checked the headlights and they had no proof that the headlight was faulty as I had already had the bulb replaced (which I had to do ASAP if I wanted to be able to drive my car). I also complained that the back carpets had not been cleaned, despite the website saying the service included the carpets being vacuumed, and was told that cleaning the back carpets isnt included in the service, which is NOT specified on the webiste. Poor service for what you pay.
I put my car in for the Gold Service in May; the car was not washed and vacuumed as it should have been. The day after it was serviced the car gave me a warning message that something was wrong with the brakes. I had to call roadside assistance who discovered the brake fluid had not been topped up enough (as part of the service I had a brake fluid flush done which they had recommended at the previous service). They were also not able to properly check the wear of the brakes because the special lock nut to remove the wheels was missing; they must have lost the lock nut at the previous service because no one had done anything to the car in between the two services. I rang and complained and was told someone would get back to me. It is now September and Im still waiting. Definitely not going back.
They are lucky to get even one star... if they could get none... Went there for a service on my Mazda and reported an ongoing intermittent issue to them (car would randomly lose all power). Later they called me and said the repairs would cost over $800. when I picked up my car I was told that they couldnt locate the source of the issue and that their computer could not talk to my cars computer. Balcatta had the equipment, Osborne Park did not. On the way home my car lost power again and after such an expensive service I was in tears. What did I pay for? seriously! how do I know anything they did was actually required? and balcatta is 10 minutes away, why did they not take my car there if the computer there could talk to it when theres would not
Complete extortionists... wanted to charge me $2300 to replace my alternator... they had me over a barrel as my car had been towed there because it was not driveable with the alternator belt snapped. Rang around to price parts myself and came to a parts total of $850, plus a couple of hours labour at $250 = $1100 for the same job! Many of the mechanics and parts providers I called expressed despair at the way RAC rip off customers... Will NEVER go near RAC again. On the up side their roadside service is fabulous to get you out of a tight spot... pity the good service stops there!
