Absolute Desaster I went to Automasters to get a PreBuy Inspection and Fixing afterwards. It was important to me that the car is reliable so i asked for a thorough check. Then all started. They found quite some things and i asked to fix them all. Only three days later i found myself in another Garage in Kalbarri because of problems. What they told me was catastrophic. Not only they did a bad inspection, they also fixed things that didnt needed to be fixed. In Detail: Bad PreBuy Inspection: They didnt check the indicators (rear right one had a broken cable). Bad Repair They didnt fix the oil leak in the gearbox. After calling them they said i didnt give the order to (i literally said fix everything...) They didnt check the diff.Oils or even the Engine Oil. They didnt check both batteries (one was totally dry and dead). And very much other things but the two biggest ones: The Gearbox had run down bearings. It was clearly noticeable (i myself thought the noise is normal...). They didnt told me anything. After confronting them they said the mechanics didnt hear anything and they do not know what i did to the gearbox in the three days. Funny thing is: The previous owner (who did a trade in) said that this was one of the reasons he sold it to a Dealer. After telling them that, he got loud and started to shout around. Second biggest thing: They said the car is in need of a new timing belt. Of course i let them change it. In Kalbarri they found out: The old one only hat 60k kms done and didnt need to be changed at all because it was good for 150k km. Their excuse here: At first they said they checked the TimingBelt and it was bad (funny thing: you cannot the that as i was told). After telling them there is a service Sticker they aknowledged the mistake and said the give me back the money for that. BUT then he found out the sticker was on the Windshield so he said nobody checks if there is a Sticker, only in the engine compartment so its not their fault anymore. What now ?? So the car didnt need a new TimingBelt at all but they changed it because for no reason ?? In the End i had to pay a couple of thousands Dollars for a new Gearbox, i paid over 600 Dollars for a Timing Belt i didnt need at all and i paid way too much money for a car based on a faulty inspection. I told them i will get a lawyer if we dont find a solution but that was again the point where he started to shout around again that they have very good solicitors... I will see if they are as "good" as their mechanics. The worst experience i had regarding mechanics.
I made this place my local service centre for a while, but after the first two visits, every time I booked my car in there was a new manager. The last time I took my car there they flagged it needed the radiator replaced, so I duly booked it in for this work. The guys replaced the wrong cap on the radiator, causing it to boil dry and the car to break down the first time we drove it any distance. They replaced the cap, but then noted that there was fluid leaking into the front passenger footwell. They claimed this was due to poor maintenance of the radiator system before I purchased the car, but I find it very coincidental that it occured only after theyd replaced the radiator in my car! Their solution for the leaking was to cut the lines to the heating, so this winter I had a car with no heating at all, and the leakage continues. I paid $5k for this vehicle (1998 Toyota Starlet) in October 2011, and thanks to these guys I now cant sell it for anything more than scrap metal! Dont go there. EDITED 27/10 - After posting this review, I was contacted by Adrian, the Operations manager, who encouraged me to take the car into a different Automasters store to see if they could locate and fix the problem. Sadly the issue wasnt really identified (it is possibly still the heater core, but wont know unless it is replaced, which is a ballpark cost of around $1000!) and the car continues to leak, however I am grateful to both Adrian and Trevor (Automasters Myaree) for assisting me in attempting to resolve the issue.
My name is Joel and i am writing this review on behalf of my mum Annie. I am also a mechanic and my mum was harrasing me to do her timing belt (Toyota Hilux 1998) but i diddnt have the time so she took it here and they charged her $550 to do it, 6 months later she calles me up as she was stranded, after attending i observed the harmonic ballencer loose indicating an issue with the harmonic ballencer/crank bolt (which is required to be removed when timing belt is replaced) we towed it back and they fixed it free of charge (which was good as they obviously took responsibility for the inncedent)but did not offer the toe fee. then 4 months later (about a month ago)my mum contacts me about her car making noise and i observed the crank bolt had snapped and the harmonic ballencer damaged due (in my opinion )to the bolt being over tightened as it is a particularly thin bolt and the usual amount of force required (in other vehicles)for such a bolt would cause a hair line fracture which may not cause a full snap for a period of time. Auto Masters told us they would not cover it this time stating that there was an issue with the crankshaft nothing can be seen in my opinion) causing these issues and the only way to fix it would be to replace the engine for a fee of $8000 we declined towed the car back home. i am currently trying to find the time to try and fix it to get the car running and i bought my mum a car to drive in the meantime.
This place is a complete rip off. Unfortunately Im a female car owner that knows nothing about mechanics, so I have to rely on guys like these for a tune up. I expect to get a little ripped off, but when I took my car for a service and ended up forking out $1,200 (despite having had my car serviced every year prior to that from a trusted mechanic interstate, without any issues whatsoever), even I knew I was being had. Whats more, I had specifically asked for my brake pads to be checked out due to squealing noises when I brake, but that issue wasnt resolved. So I took my car back, but after a few days the squealing came back. I was told to "break harder" when I drive, but that is ridiculous - Id be jerking forward in my seat every time I stopped at a traffic light if I was to drive like that. Basically the one issue I wanted resolved wasnt, and instead I walked away with $1,200 in new parts that I probably didnt even need. Arent there any honest, trustworthy mechanics out there?
They charged me 195.00 for a general service and 90.00 for a diagnostic check. then said I needed new rotors and break pads in the front of the vehicle and it would be 440 which is extremely overpriced. I got a second opinion and they said the rotors didnt need to be replaced because they were less than a mm off factory standard. But the pads did need replacing and the best ones are 75 max for both pads.. They ended up charging me 345 for the general service and diagnostic check with plenty of other various small fees and fixes...getting my brakes done somewhere else. I felt extremely taken advantage of because I am young and female.
