Terrible experience with the Launceston Bargain Car Rentals. I called the office to book as I had some extra questions about the campervans before I went ahead and everything seemed to be fine. When arrived we were asked about what insurance we wanted. I said I had already told Ben over the phone that I was going with zero insurance (after renting cars & campers all over the world and never having an issue, I am prepared to pay for any damage in the unlikely event). Ok, said the manager, you will need to leave a $3500 bond. WHAT?! He then advised that this policy is in the fine print on the website, which is all well and good, but I booked and paid with my card OVER THE PHONE. As someone on a very tight budget, any mention of $3500 would have certainly got my attention on the phone call! After some back and forth we were pretty much forced to pay an extra $250 for their gold insurance (which requires no bond). Leaving a bond is not the issue I have here. The issue is that by not mentioning it at the time of booking, you are not giving anyone the chance to prepare, perhaps get an extension on a credit card, and then putting them on the spot at the desk to make a quick extra $250. Appalling. Not many travellers i know have a spare $3500 floating around, and if you do, you are probably going to look for better quality transport than that on offer here. To add insult to injury, when we got to our first beautiful camping spot by the beach, i wanted to wash the filthy cutlery but the water tank was completely empty, leaving us unable to clean any dishes, fill up drink bottle, etc, and had to waste time finding an RV park that would let us refill. I do not mind cheap old cars in the slightest, but a bit of maintenance and general customer service would have gone a really long way.
I rented a Hyundai Accent for a bit over a week, the car was quite new and wouldve been quite happy if the car was of a standard I had expected and if I wasnt hit with $65 of extra charges on my card without notice. It turns out I wouldve been a lot happier with an older Corolla instead, it was quite noisy inside the car at highway speeds, the windows had no tinting so was quite hot under the sun even though it was quite nice outside and the USB port wasnt functional. The extra charges were for fuel, we were told to bring the car back empty, which we did, and that there would waive the fuel charges, which they didnt. The rest was for locking the keys inside the car, we were told we could bring the car back after hours by leaving it at the depot and putting the keys under a door, the gate was locked when we got there and we were told to drive the car the airport instead. I missed a call from them, tried to call back and they told they were busy and would call back, I never got the call instead I just found the credit card charge some time later. In the end I felt that I didnt save any money going with this company and ended up with a worse experience than I wouldve got going with one of the other options. Its a shame as I felt they were quite friendly and wouldve liked them to do well.
The staff was very helpful and very thing was well prepared for us. So we just could arrive, pick up the car and leave. The First car was a Suzuki Grand Vitara Urban. The car was Not new, but was clean, working smoothly and was perfect for us. The inspection forma were already prepared and all the Details were already mentioned. The Car return was as smooth as the pick up. During our stay we got got from Bargain Cars the message to bring back our car and get therefore a new one. This was a bit unconvinient for uns, since we had to drive back from Mole Creek to Launceston to change the car. We never found out why we exactly had to change the, since everything was working fine and we lost half a day. We got a brand new Nissan and the staff at Launceston helped is to change the car with a minimum of time for us to loose The Car return was as smooth as the pick up.
Just wanted to say we had a great time with your camper van rental. As my daughter pointed out, when you take an older vehicle, because its cheaper, everything about it is older, including the upholstery, the curtains, the drawers and sound system. Newer might have felt a little cleaner and fresher. Also, I recommend you include a small tool in your silverware drawer, to tighten screws and loosen valves. I brought one with me, fortunately, though Bangkok Air took it away. Cleaning the propane valves in the stove would have been good, too. Otherwise it was handy, responsive, not too bad on gas and an overall delightful trip. Your service was quick and uncomplicated. Thanks.
My partner and I arrived at Launceston Airport gave the office a call and 10mins later the driver arrived with a van and picked everyone up ant took us to the office. They were all very busy trying to get everyone off on there way and handed the situation with the greatest of ease. The vehicle/ camper van was clean, comfortable and very well maintained, everything was provided. Our experience was of a high standard and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone looking for excellent service and price.
It was our first time with Bargain Car rentals and we found them to be excellent. The car was mechanical good and very clean. Pick up was easy and returning the car before office hours was simple. We have recommended Bargain Car rentals to friends that are travelling to Tasmania for holidays. Thank you for good service.
I was quite nervous because it was my first time renting a car but the staff were wonderful and the car was exactly what I had ordered.....no problems at all. I would cheerfully deal with Launceston Airport Bargain Car Rentals again!! Thank you Sally & staff.
I have rented twice from them this year (sub-compact & compact). They have fabulous rates and the cars are all new. There might be an issue with GPS availability but except that they are very near the airport, offer pick and drop and customer service is fine.
Great car, just what we wanted and at a great price. The instructions about fuel. drop off etc where all very clear and we had no issues at all. We are likely to return to Tasmania on a regular basis and will definitely use Bargain Car Rentals again.
nice efficient operation. was a bit ishy washy about the dents not marked on the pickup report. be good of they clarified either we mark it or they wouldnt care about it, instead i was just fobbed off with a mumbled sentence.

We rented a car from you for two weeks and the whole experience was top class. Pick up and delivery went without a hitch. The car itself was spotless and totally reliable. We will use Bargain again, for sure!
Staff were very friendly and easy to deal with. They helped so much in many ways. Car was in excellent condition, great to drive and economic on fuel. Very happy to recommend them to any traveller.
champers are very poor in every way ,and not cheap to hire ,management dishonest in dealings ,in our opinion would not recommend to any one to use this firm...
