Horrible experience with Thrifty Hobart at Airport, it has ruined our holidays, a nightmare !!! beyond words, we were four families with 4 toddlers, rented a van. Tyres were bald, told them before pick up, Thrifty person said should be fine (car has done 69000 and looks like tyres were not replaced). On the way back from Mount Wellington, smoke started coming from front tyres. Called Thrifty, staff said call tomorrow, I can help you. Received a call from Amelia (Thrifty Staff) said I have done something to tyres it not their fault because their cars are all checked regularly. She agreed to replace van and asked me to come to airport. When I went, she said their replacement vans battery is flat. Asked me to take van to their centre where one tyre can be replaced from car, when I asked about wastage of time and seek apology then Amelia said, " you are talking around n around and told me that I am aggressive. Literally took keys away from my hands and cancelled my rental contract and told me to find another car. I told her it is not acceptable, our kids waiting outside in a hot day, I have no where to go now then Amelia called the Airport Security to remove me. Unsafe, unprofessional and merciless Thrifty Hobart Airport. People it not worth risking your families life and spoil you holidays.
The onboarding process to rent a car was easy. It went smoothly, in less than 5 min we were up and ready. However, price breakdown wasnt clear at all. We agreed to purchase the premium protection that covers from collision damage (in the unlikely event of an accident), but we also got charged from "recovery plus protection" and a "vehicle registration fee" for the entire trip. If its a rego, shouldnt be just a lump sum payment? Anyway, no dramas with the car. Trip went well. Just frustrated about price outlay. It seems that every car rental company has a dodgy system to charge you more for unnecessary stuff. Double check before you hit the road.
The manager was extremely rude. She laughed at us when we opted out of paying for extras that had not been made clear on the online booking. She also exchanged glances and negative comments with the colleague she was supposed to be training who was serving us. Was shocked at how blatantly disrespectful she was. The only poor customer service we received in our entire trip to Tasmania. Will avoid Thrify as a result even though the car itself was quite good. Plenty of other options in the airport.
Give them a wide birth – terrible! The car was over an hour late. The yard is too small for the number of cars (they all block each other in, no idea of a plan to have the cars organised, ready to go in customer order). Only two staff (it was a busy Friday morning); one in the office, one in the yard. No communication about when the car would be ready. Overall terrible service, and basically the same price as the competitors - I won’t be back to this location.
Made a booking online for 9am the vehicle we selected was available on the website. Arrived at the counter to a rude obnoxious women telling me the car is not going to be available for a couple of hours and to look at going with someone else because they have allocated the cars for people who didnt book last minute. Haha poor customer service if they dont have cars available dont advertise them on your website. AVOID
Despite the bad reviews I made a booking via a cost comparison website. Went to the main Thrifty website to see that the car I had booked wasnt even available in Hobart. Rang many times to talk to staff but phone rang out - so theyve missed out on my business. Hope the rest of the Thrifty locations in Australia arent like this :(
I was charged for petrol but the petrol gauge read above Full. I would love to speak to someone at the Hobart Thrifty office but the phone rings out every time I call. Id love to think this is a genuine mistake but I doubt it. I think they were hoping I would not notice.
Almost certainly will not provide any service or assistance should you need it. Will charge you late fees despite multiple attempts to call and extend booking.
Its a car rental company in the Hobarts CBD. Not much more to say. Very handy due to the proximity of the public transport hub (bus mall)
Affordable. 15% discount for RACV members. Car stunk like off milk. Silver Kia hatch back. Avoid if you can.
Staff could be friendlier, but nice , well reappointed vehicles
The online booking system sucks.
Reliable and easy. No fuss.
