Checked in to investigate an oil leak (chose City Car Care purely for convenience sake). I got charged $72.00 for inspection and $100 to clean the engine bay. Then they quoted me $750 to change the oil pressure switch (location of oil leak). I called another mechanic and was quoted less than $200 to fix it! Just sharing my experience, you can be your own judge! *-------------------------------------------* Update - took my car to the other mechanic and they found that the oil leak is not from the oil pressure switch!! My view is that not only City Car Care charges an exorbitant price but also they are misdiagnose problems. So, if I had went with the advice and paid the $750, it wouldnt have fix anything!!
Best case incompetent and lazy, worst case liars and crooks. Took my car for a roadworthy which they failed for an oil leak and leaking struts. Took my car to a different mechanic to replace the struts and fix the oil leak where they told me the struts were not leaking and it looked like someone had sprayed oil on them. Similarly with the oil leak, was told there was one oil spot, but it was dry and there was no leak. Mechanic said there was nothing for him to fix. Took the car to Goodyear Autocare in Gungahlin (who were great) without doing anything to the car and it passed the roadworthy... Save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else; absolutely the worst experience Ive ever had with any mechanic.
Only giving one star because you cant leave it with 0 stars. Expensive AND didnt do the work. Took the car to a more reputable mechanic in Gungahlin about one month after having the car "serviced" with a wheel alignment at City Car Care. The more reputable mechanic said our car would need a service within a month and that it needed a wheel alignment - both of these things had allegedly been done by City Car Care and the car had been driven on about 3 trips of 10 or so km since then (its our 2nd car). Also - as many other reviewers have noted - expensive quote for other work that they didnt perform ($500 plus labour) vs cheaper quote elsewhere ($340 incl labour). Look elsewhere.
I took my car there for a rego check last year, when I picked it up I was told by the receptionist that the seat belts were faulty, not seeing anything wrong the girl told me the belts had cancer and pointed to a couple of blemishes on the belt but nothing that would affect the performance, I went to the NRMA and they agreed with me saying the belts were fine.... Same old story, arguing with them was pointless, I replaced the belts (at great cost) and got them to retest and pass. I used to go there for all my services etc. but wont set foot in there again.
My car broke down while passing through Canberra and needed to be repaired. Once the car had been towed to the garage, City Care Care were very fast in assessing what needed to be done and gave a frank and honest quote. They were then able to repair the vehicle (which needed a new radiator, radiator hoses and a fan belt) within the same day so we could be on our way without too much delay! My only criticism would be that I needed to call to check on the progress of repairs rather than them calling me first. Overall an excellent speedy service!
Save yourself a lot of grief and go elsewhere. I took my car there to get aircon serviced; after the service it did not work at all. I got a bullshit story about what was wrong with the aircon and how I had to replace a control module, none of which turned out to be true. Totally dishonest. Not trustworthy. Checking other reviews afterwards I realised quite a few other people have had issues with them too.
A true rip off. Went there and asked my spark plugs to be changed as I always had the same problem with spark plugs. Even though I precisely asked for just changing the plugs, with my new spark plugs in my hand they insisted to scan the car. It took them less than 10 min and they charged me $72 just to change them. when asked why this much they told me because we scanned the car!!!!!
Very poor experiences with several cars over several years; only used them due to proximity to home. Last dealt with them in 2016. They will overcharge, leave plastic covers off, not correctly torque bolts and try to force you to purchase unnecessary tests or scans at every stage. Dont bother.
Did Road Worthy inspection of my used car just bought from NT. From Toyota dealer in NT. In the inspection told, rear wheels are illegal, so suggested to replace and indicated cost $160/each but ended up paying in total $424, for two wheels $285+allignment+Rego check.
Biggest rip-offs ive ever encountered. Did unnecessary overpriced work. Had to go to another mechanics to fix their mistakes. Was told they replaced parts that didnt need replacing with inferior quality parts that were installed incorrectly.
I would have liked to have used them for my vehicle but after taking the morning off work their sole inspector was off sick (was told only 30 minutes before the appointment). Should have looked at the reviews below!
Got quoted $50 for a tyre plug so I walked away. Hate to think what they charge for more complex repairs
Great service thanks!
